Mastopexy (Breast Lift) Surgery Tampa
About Mastopexy (Breast Lift) Surgery
Many women in the Tampa Bay, FL area may experience the natural changes in breast shape over time. Gravity, hormonal changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding, changes in breast size, significant weight loss or gain, can all contribute changing breast shape. Additionally, some women are bothered by sagging or “drooping” breasts, larger than normal areola, or a lower nipple position as they mature. The mastopexy procedure can drastically reduce ptosis, or droopiness, of the breasts and create a more youthful breast appearance. Women seeking mastopexy or breast lifting alone are usually women who are happy with the size of their breasts in a bra or would like to be slightly larger or smaller, but they are dissatisfied with the droopiness of the breasts. In other cases, a mastopexy can be combined with a breast augmentation for those women who would like their breasts lifted as well as larger. Women from all over the Tampa Bay area from Apollo Beach to Wesley Chapel come to Dr. Lee for his excellent surgical techniques and results.
Mastopexy procedures involves raising the breast tissue by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape the breasts providing a more youthful, rounded look.
Are You A Candidate For Breast Lift Surgery?
During your breast lift consultation, Dr. Lee and his staff with help determine if you are a candidate for a breast lift procedure. Dr. Lee may determine that a different option may be better for you such as a breast reduction or a mastopexy with augmentation.
A breast reduction is performed using a very similar technique to a mastopexy procedure, however, more tissue is removed and the goal is to decrease the amount of heavy breast tissue. A mastopexy with augmentation is performed using the same incision as a general mastopexy procedure, however, a permanent implant is placed in the breast pocket for those who desire a larger breast shape or if their breast tissue is not adequate for a mastopexy alone.
If Dr. Lee does determine you are a candidate for a mastopexy procedure, he will discuss your desired outcome and goals of the surgery as well as explain the surgery expectations with you.

Day of Surgery
Whether you are having a mastopexy or a mastopexy with augmentation, on the day of your surgery you will arrive to our private office-based surgery center and be greeted by our experienced surgical nurse. You will then be taken to your preoperative room and provided with a warm blanket. After consents are signed and vital signs are taken, our nurse will start your IV. Our personal nurse anesthetist will interview you regarding your past health and surgeries to determine what type of anesthesia will be best for you. For breast lift surgery, general anesthesia and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks are used. Ultrasound-guided regional and general nerve blocks are used to help provide an opioid-free/reduced anesthesia technique so that our patients go home with minimal pain and postoperative nausea. You will also see Dr. Lee on the morning of surgery prior to entering the operating room so you are able to discuss any extra expectations and ask any questions you may have.
The most common incision that is performed for a breast lift is the Wise-pattern incision, which looks like an upside-down T, with most of the incision hidden under the breast crease. Dr. Lee takes extra care in his suturing and postoperative incision care to ensure minimal visibility of your scars. This surgery generally takes between 2-4 hours in length, if you are having an augmentation as well, it will extend the surgery approximately one hour.
After your surgery, your incisions will be dressed with water-proof and antimicrobial dressings, followed by a breast binder which you will wear for 4-6 weeks after surgery. You may also have one drain in each breast pocket to drain any excess blood or fluid. You should expect these to be easily removed in our office within 5-10 days after surgery. Your nurse and nurse anesthetist will take you to your private recovery room after surgery and monitor you until you are comfortable to be discharged home. After surgery it is normal to feel some degree of discomfort, pressure, and fatigue. Medication for pain control and antibiotics will be provided for you. Dr. Lee conveniently schedules the majority of his surgeries on Thursdays and Fridays so you are able to rest over the weekend and miss a minimal amount of work. Dr. Lee and his staff will see you within the first few days after surgery to change your dressings and ensure you are well-healed.
